Who's the Target Audience?
The target audience for this kit is intermediate and advanced teachers working with children from birth to age 8. This kit will help teachers explore many ways to interpret children's play to family members in culturally relevant ways.

Kit Timeline:
Preparation time for this kit is estimated at 1.0 hours. Implementation time is estimated at 1.5 hours.
Training Outcomes:
- Teachers will explain the importance of play through play environments, curriculum planning, and explaining how they work.
- Teachers will practice observing children at play in partnership with parents to provide concrete examples of what their child is learning that are congruent with the family's cultural value system.
- Teachers will describe what children are learning when they play.
- Teachers will demonstrate to families that their cultural values and beliefs are understood and accepted by modifying descriptions of children's play to match family expectations.
These training outcomes address the following:
- A-2, B-4b, B-4(d-e), B-7(a-h) of the Accreditation Criteria and Procedures of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC, 1998).
- Standard 1a-c, 2, 3, 4b, and 5 of NAEYC Standards for Early Childhood Professional Preparation, Initial Licensure Level (NAEYC, 2003).
- 1304.21(a)(1)(i-iii), 1304.21(a)(2)(ii-iii), 1304.21(a)(3)(i)(E), 1304.40(a)(1), 1304.40(a)(5), and 1304.40(e)(3) of Head Start Performance Standards (Federal Register, Nov. 5, 1996, Volume 61, Number 215).
