Over 80,000 early childhood teachers, directors, and family child care providers have been given the opportunity to access educational experiences thanks to the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood® Scholarship Project since July 1998. T.E.A.C.H., which stands for Teacher Education And Compensation Helps, began in 1990 in North Carolina. What began as a small pilot project offering scholarships to 21 caregivers has grown into a national movement. Now in 23 states, T.E.A.C.H. addresses the enduring challenges that plague the early childhood field — high turnover, low compensation, and insufficient teacher education — by providing the opportunity for a diverse population of adult learners already working in the field to gain more education.
